A Wish Closet Volunteer Earns Her Angel Wings

It is with very heavy hearts that we announce that our dedicated volunteer, Bernadette, went to the light this weekend (April 21st) and our thoughts are with her husband Claude, her daughter Annette and granddaughter Sage.

Bernadette was one of the first volunteers with the Wish Closet. She worked tirelessly to promote the Wish Closet, and to treat our shoppers with respect and dignity.

Bernadette was involved in many efforts to help kids before the Wish Closet existed with prizes for Attendance Assemblies and the “travelling clothes giveaway”.

The number of people Bernadette helped over the years will never truly be known as she had many active groups of folks that counted on her.

As difficult as this time is for Claude, Annette and Sage, the world has lost a woman with a big heart, a generous spirit and a quick wit. Without question, Bernadette truly earned her Angel wings.

BCI Students Learn to Pay It Forward

BCI Teacher Lori Ervin was looking for a meaningful way for the students in her Business Management course to get involved with a few charities.  The Wish Closet was selected by Andrew Opper, Humza Quershi, Dylan Teeple, Kristen Ziechange, Zach Morrison, Mitch McIssac, Jillian Hunt, Justin Robinson and Levi Myers as their charity to support.  The students arranged a Zumba event and gathered gently used clothing for the Wish Closet.

Several dozen bags full of clothing were gathered by the Zumba team and donated to the Wish Closet.

The student team also very kindly donated a $25 Tim Horton's gift card to Betty Finley, the Creator of the Wish Closet, for her volunteer team to enjoy a coffee for all of their hard work and dedication. 

Thank you Andrew, Humza, Kristen, Levi, Zach, Mitch, Jillian and Justin for Paying It Forward in your community and thank you Lori for allowing your students this opportunity to learn about giving. In the words of Margaret Meade:

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world.  Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

Kristen Pays It Forward

Kirsten Sowa delivered bags and bags of items to Major B on January 7th. She was very, very impressed by the reception and the tour she received. Kirsten has received a wonderful response from friends and family who have donated. She returned the following day with 2 vehicle loads of items. These included household items , toys and clothing.

 

Kirsten has shared the brochure and information and enhanced people’s awareness about the Wish Closet. Thank you Kristen for your generosity and for championing our cause.
